On July 11, a resident of Bordeaux came back from Morocco to France with a young puppy that had received no vaccination and was unfortunately rabid. Of course, the owner did not know this fact.

This young man get out for frequent walks in the centre of the city, particularly around the river and botanical gardens. He also visited several \"festivals\" with his pet in the Dordogne, Gironde, Lot and Garonne regions (south-west of France) between August 2 and 21, in particular:
· 2nd August in Hostens (Gironde)
· 5th August at the festival in Perigueux (Dordogne)
· 7-8th August at the street festival in Miramont de Guyenne (Lot and Garonne)
· 12-14th August at the music festival in Libourne (Gironde)

The female was only 4 months old, of average size with long brown hair, tail and ears.

The pup became aggressive 3-4 days before its death, on August 21.

Before this date, the pup met several people. The most of them were just in contact, but not bitten. About 40 persons have been found and received medics.

BUT the authorities are still urgently seeking 8 people who may have been infected. Among them :

· a jogger who was bitten while running on the right bank of the River Garonne on August 18 or 19,
· a Dutchman, about 40 years old, called himself Josephus; he told people he met that he was an independent biologist.\" It is thought he is from Utrecht. On vacation in Bordeaux, he could have been travelling to Royan (Charente-Maritime)
· a woman, maybe Spanish or with Spanish origins, with her 15 years old daughter. Their little white terrier-dog (with a “westie” look) played with the rabid young bitch on august 10-11 in the area “Bordeaux-Lac”
· a french-maghrebin couple, with 2 children (a boy & a girl, about 5 years old) that played with the rabid pup a night (date unknown) after 9 pm, on the left side of the river in Bordeaux.
· 2 young girls (5-6 years old and 3-4 years old) were seen, playing with the puppy in Miramont-de-Guyenne (Dordogne), during the “festival des arts de la rue” on August 7 & 8.
· 1 boy, 8-10 years old, would have been playing in the night of august 12 during the theater representation of the \"Theâtre Group\", on the parking place “Rialto” between 21H45 and 23H30 in Libourne (Gironde)

All these people MUST absolutely get in touch with the authorities or a doctor as soon as possible. If they are still in France, they can directly call the medical emergencies phone number : « 15 » or the special cell created by the authorities of the Gironde : 05 56 90 60 00

The authorities are still seeking 3 dogs :
· a big male mixed german shepherd x Beauceron that was in Libourne during the festival Fest\'Art de Libourne from august 12 to 14
· a big white female (as big as a Labrador) that was bitten in Bordeaux, on the bank of the river, near the botanic park, august 18, 19 or 20
· a grey poodle, met on a place reserved for camping-cars in Périgueux on august 5th.

· 1 niño, 8-10 años, habría estado jugando por la noche de agosto 12 durante la representación del teatro del \"Grupo de Theâtre\", en el lugar del aparcamiento “Rialto” entre 21H45 y 23H30 en Libourne (Gironde)

Todas estas personas deben ponerse en contacto lo más pronto posible con las autoridades o un doctor.
